Summer has arrived with its warmth and extended daylight hours. If the inviting climate is luring you away from the gym and towards open-air get-togethers, consider mixing up your exercise regimen. Rally a friend and explore the variety of open-air exercise sessions offered throughout the city. Embrace the sunshine and crisp breeze as you engage in a healthy workout.

MORNING EXERCISES OUTDOORS
For the early risers eager to start their day with exercise before the sun intensifies, venture out and experience “Form and Flow” in Flatiron. Offered by The Rise, this unique blend of yoga, ballet, and calisthenics unfolds every Thursday at 6:30 am by the iconic Flatiron building. Remember to bring along your yoga mat and a towel.

For those with a preference for rigorous exercises like push-ups and burpees, the Bryant Park Boot Camp is a free event each Wednesday at 6:30 am. Featuring a series of exercises from crunches to planks, this session requires no additional equipment. Just head to the 6th Ave entrance of the park. What’s more therapeutic than blending sunsets with yoga after a long day? Visit The Plaza on 66th street (Riverside Park South) for complimentary sunset Hatha yoga or pilates sessions every Tuesday and Wednesday. Ensure you’re dressed comfortably and have your yoga mat with you. Participants of all skill levels are welcome.

WEEKEND FITNESS FRENZY
Elevate your weekend spirits by dancing along with Summer on the Hudson’s Zumba every Saturday at 11 am. This dynamic session is set at West Harlem Piers Park on 125th street. Don’t forget to hydrate and come prepared to groove to trendy Zumba tracks.

Initiate your Sundays with tranquil yoga sessions at the picturesque Socrates Sculpture Park in Queens. Complimentary Kripalu Yoga sessions are available every weekend till September. Enthusiasts of all skill levels are encouraged to join.

Seeking a more robust workout? Dive into an Outdoor Park Workout every Saturday at 10:30 am in Jersey City’s Hamilton Park. This session emphasizes conditioning, strength, and flexibility. A nominal donation of $5 is suggested.

RUNS DURING TWILIGHT
Participate in Open Run, a community-driven initiative, for a structured free run every Thursday at 7 pm, commencing from Brooklyn Bridge Park (Pier 6). This running event, ranging between 2.5 to 3 miles, is inclusive of participants across age groups and experience levels. Since the course remains open till the last runner finishes, everyone’s pace is accommodated. Keep your valuables safe at home, bring a running partner, and ensure you’re there 15 minutes ahead for seamless registration.
